As a sophomore, he hit .413 with 10 home runs. He was also third in the pitching rotation. During his junior season, after moving up to the number 1 spot in the pitching rotation, he was 10-2 with a 2.30 era. He also hit .597 with 13 home runs and 54 RBI.

During the summer of 2005, he played on Team Mississippi, a team of Mississippi high school all stars who played in the Sunbelt Baseball Classic at McAlester, OK.
