Scout.com's #26 rated strong side linebacker committed to Tennessee early in the recruiting process. He has decided to play the next four years in the SEC but it will be at one of the Vols rival schools.
"D.T. has decided that he is going to Ole Miss," stated Mrs. Shackelford
while D.T. was at a church function "He just felt the most comfortable with
the situation at Ole Miss. He really loves their coaches, and he fell in love
with their campus when he came on his first visit. We came with him on his
official visit (to Ole Miss), and it really is a great environment for you to
have success in not only the classroom but on the football field. Ole Miss is
really on an upswing, and they have a great academic program for their student
athletes. We could not be anymore happy for our son. It is a great fit for our
family and for Ole Miss."
The 6' 2", 235 pound Decatur (AL) native was a force on the field as a senior
as he pulled in 90 tackles, 6 sacks, 20 tackles for losses, 3 passes defended,
and 3 fumble recoveries. D.T. was named 1st Team All-State for all classifications
by the Birmingham News and Post, as well as 1st Team All-State for Class 6A.
The Alabama/Mississippi All-Star selection collected 112 tackles, 7.5 sacks, and
5 forced fumbles as a junior and was named Decatur Daily 1st Team All-Area
team which includes all of the schools in the 4A-6A calcifications.
D.T. Shackelford selected Ole Miss over Tennessee and Auburn. He was offered by
Ole Miss, LSU, South Carolina, Stanford, Tennessee, Auburn, Vandy, Kentucky, and
Louisville.
