One of Memphis' top prospects this year is hoping to land in the SEC next season.
"I am mostly hearing from Ole Miss," added Tyshaan Alston.
"They came by my school last week. Memphis has been calling too."
The
Rebels got a good look at the Kirby product when he attended their camp this past
summer.
"They offered me at their passing camp. I was going up against
some of their top receivers at that camp, like Pat Patterson and Vincent Sanders,
those guys from Noxubee County. We played them in the championship game, and I
held them without a TD. I ran like a 4.48 at that camp too. They offered me that
day."
Alston went over to the Oxford campus earlier this year to check
out a football game.
"I went to the Ole Miss/Memphis game to see how
things are. I like the fact that they treat their players a certain way. They
want them to get a degree. It is not just about football with them. They are not
going to use you for what they want. I also like Coach Derrick Nix a lot. He seems
like a real cool down to earth coach. He is not all uptight. Coach gets straight
to the point, but he will cut up and laugh and be one of the boys at the same
time."
Tyshaan has not committed to Ole Miss but one could be coming
in the future.
"I have basically already made up my mind. If Ole Miss
wants me come signing day, I am going to sign with them."
The 6' 2",
180 pound athlete feels like wide receiver is his best option for the next level.
"I
have played both ways (S/WR) my whole career here, but I feel like I have better
ball skills. I can make more plays at WR."
Alston has 20 catches for
480 yards and 12 Td's at wide out, while managing 21 tackles, 2 int's, 1 forced
fumble, and 1 defensive TD manning the safety position.
"I have brought
my speed up, way up, and I am focusing much better this year. I have learned to
run better routes, and I am more physical on defense."
Kirby is off
to a 5-1 start, and he feels like his team has improved greatly since last season.
"Our
team has improved a great deal since last season because we are more mentally
focused. We use to get down after a bad play, but now, we just got out there and
turn a negative into a position. That is what football is all about."
Tyshaan
could be getting his college decision out of the way in the near future.
"I
will probably do it within the next week or two. I am going to go over it with
my mother and then I am going to make my decision."
