Ole Miss head coach Ed Orgeron announced Tuesday
the signing of former UCLA Bruin Jeremy McGee to a football scholarship. McGee
is currently completing his coursework at UCLA and is scheduled to enroll at Ole
Miss in July.
"We are excited to have Jeremy McGee joining our program,"
said Orgeron, who is entering his third season at the helm of the Rebel program.
"Transfers like BenJarvus Green-Ellis and Jevan Snead help our program. He
is from Louisiana, a state where we have recruited well. We welcome Jeremy and
his family to our Ole Miss family." Due to NCAA transfer rules,
McGee, who played as a true freshman for UCLA this past season, must sit out the
2007 campaign at Ole Miss, but will still have three years of eligibility remaining,
beginning with the 2008 season. McGee saw action in 10 of the Bruins
13 games in 2006, primarily on special teams. He opened his collegiate career
playing running back, but also suited up as a cornerback and a wide receiver during
his freshman season. McGee finished his freshman campaign with an 18.5-yard per
return average on 11 kick-off returns. He turned in a season-long kick-off return
of 31 yards versus Washington and also had a 28-yard kick-off return against Notre
Dame. The New Orleans native played his first three years of high school
football at Edna Karr High before completing his prep playing career at McKinley
High in Baton Rouge after being displaced by Hurricane Katrina. He accounted for
1,300 yards (900 rushing) and 11 touchdowns at McKinley, while also adding 554
return yards and four TDs. He was named to the Baton Rouge Advocates 5A-4A
All-Metro team as a kick returner after his senior season.
