TN High School: McCallie (Div 11)
The following information
was revealed during our interview with Tanner Moore:
What are your defensive strengths on the field? "I
think I hustle all of the time, on and off the field. Any ball that is close,
I will dive for. I always pick the players up. I am a team player. My hands are
good. My feet are quick. I am a little inconsistent with my throw, but I have
good arm strength."
What are you working on defensively right now?
"Mostly right now, I am just trying to relax and not press out there, and
just have a good time."
What are your hitting strengths? "I think
I hit well alley from alley. I need to sit back on the curveball more. I am out
on front too much. My stride is a little long, but I am trying to shorten that
up. But overall, I think that if I just wait back on the ball, I am a solid hitter."
What
were your stats last season? "I hit .394 with 6 HR's and 30 RBI's. My freshman
year, this is all varsity, I batted .390 with 2 HR's and 27 RBI's.. My sophomore
year, I batted .400 with 6 HR's and 48 RBI's."
Did you receive any
awards last year? "I received Div 11 All-State as a utility player. I have
been on the Jr Sunbelt Team that went to Oklahoma and represented the state of
Tennessee since I was a freshman. We won the tournament all three years."
Which
AAU team do you play for? "I play for the Chattanooga Cyclones in the SEC
League. The S' East Championship Series. This past weekend, we finished the SES
tournament and we won that. I was named MVP for the tournament. We start our fall
season on August 26th. We open in Ole Miss' stadium."
Who are the
main colleges that are recruiting you right now? "Right now, the main ones
are Memphis and Ole Miss. I would love to go to Ole Miss, but we will have to
see what happens. Vandy has called me a few times. They want me to come in for
a visit, but it just cost so much to go to school there. I would have to get a
real high (scholarship) offer. I do not know. We will see."
Have you
visited any of the schools you are interested in? "Well, I went to Ole Miss'
camp and stayed for a few days. I guess you could say it was an unofficial visit.
They are the only school I have visited."
What stood out about Ole
Miss during your trip? "I love the college town. I do not want to go to a
big town, a big city. I like the small college towns. I love their field. The
field is in great condition. Really, just the whole atmosphere around there. I
have a couple of friends from McCallie who go to school there. They said that
the atmosphere for their baseball games is amazing. All of Ole Miss' coaches have
been tremendously nice. I also love their baseball facilities. They have a great
team and program, one that I would love to be a part of."
What is
your current academic status? "I have a 3.0 at McCallie, which is ranked
as one of the Top 10 prep schools in the country. It is an all guys school. I
scored a 1050 on the SAT.
