Joey Lieberman (lB, Meridian CC, MS) - Joey was a part of the Warren Central team that won the state championship a few years back. With Brian Pettway and Taylor Tankersley stealing the headlines, Joey slipped through the cracks.
In his first season at Meridian CC, he helped led them to the College World Series. Lieberman was Van Pope's protector. And would you not know it, Joey outshone all of the stars at Meridian CC, as he led the team in HR's (18) and RBI's (65).
The following information was revealed during our interview
with Joey Lieberman:
What
is your current height and weight? "I am 6' 0",
200. "
Which position do you currently play? "I play 1B."
Which side do you throw and bat from? "I hit and throw from the right side."
Which position are you being recruited to play on the
next level? "1B or the outfield, but probably 1B."
What are your strengths on the field? "Defensively,
being at 1B, just saving position players from errors,
by scooping up the balls in the dirt. Offensively, I
did not have the power in high school that I have now,
but I have found the long ball. That has definitely
helped."
What are you currently working on to improve your game?
"I just do not want to rest on the success that
I had last year. I have to keep improving each day,
or it could go the other way."
What were your batting stats last season? "I hit
.345 with 18 HR's and 65 RBI's. I led our team in both
categories."
Which awards did you receive for your play? "We
do not give out team awards, but I made All-State and
All-Region."
Which schools are currently recruiting you the hardest?
"Ole Miss, Alabama, and Memphis."
Which
schools are at the top of your list? "Alabama,
the name of it. I really liked it up there. I have been
there a couple of times. It is definitely a place I
would like to play for. Ole Miss, being a Mississippi
guy, that caught my eye. Those two are probably my top
two schools. And Memphis, our head coach at Meridian
CC now coaches at Memphis, so that would be neat to
play for him again."
Any official visits lined up? "I go to Ole Miss
this weekend. Memphis next weekend, and Alabama the
weekend after that."
What will you be looking for while you are on your visits?
"I want to see what type of players they have on
their team. Who all plays at my position. I will talk
to the coaches and players and just see how I fit in
with them."
Are you a draft and follow prospect? "Yes sir,
the Braves drafted me this summer."
When are you scheduled to graduate? "In May."
