Mulholland commits to Ole Miss
Mulholland is excited about pitching at Wrigley. He's also happy about choosing Ole Miss.
"I've already ordered shirts and caps," he said today. "I'm ready to wear the Ole Miss colors."
The 6-foot-4 Mulholland, who will be a senior at Pendleton School at the IMG Academy, ultimately picked Ole Miss over a local team, Central Florida. But many others, like Miami, North Carolina, Clemson, and Florida were heavily in the mix.
"Central Florida was close to home, and I like it there," he said. "It's a program on the rise, and I enjoyed my time visiting there.
"But Ole Miss is the place for me," he continued. "They've been (a great program) and will continue to have a shot every year (to get to the College World Series)."
Mulholland, who will sign in November, said he isn't looking ahead to the draft next June and what could happen with a pitcher of his caliber.
"That's a year away. Right now it's finish my year here and go to Ole Miss. I can't wait to get there. The pro thing will have to wait, and I'll worry about it later."
As a junior Mulholland's team finished 29-1 last spring and was ranked by at least one poll as the seventh best high school team in the nation. Mulholland was 6-0 with a 2.80 ERA, including 89 strikeouts in 51 innings pitched. He had three saves as well.
He throws a four-seam fastball 89-91 and a two-seam fastball 90-91 "that moves a lot," according to Mulholland. He actually topped out at 94 mph this past season. He has a changeup, a slider, and a curve.
Mulholland and his dad visited Ole Miss for the Georgia series in late April. He wanted his mom and sister to visit the campus with him in the days ahead before he committed.
But the Under Armour game changed all that, and he decided to commit to the school and program he knew he was going to anyway.
"I wanted them (mom, sister) to see what it means to be a Rebel," Mulholland said.
For the next several years, they'll have plenty of time to find out.
