Lakota West running back and Ole Miss commitment Stephen Houston visited Oxford this weekend for an official visit. Read about it inside.
Running back
Stephen Houston
has long known
Ole Miss
head coach Houston Nutt.
The two have been in contact since his freshman year in high school and after a visit to Oxford this weekend, it appears Houston will get to spend his college career under Nutt’s tutelage.
“The visit went great,” Stephen said. “I felt a lot of love from Coach Nutt, the players, just everybody. Coach Nutt is a real nice guy. He goofs around just like everybody else (laughs). He’s like a father figure to all his players. He definetly made me feel comfortable. I can’t wait to get down there.”
Houston was hosted by sophomore
Derrick Davis
. What questions did he have for the fellow running back?
“I asked him how he liked Ole Miss and playing under Coach Nutt,” he said. “He’s playing running back here and showed me what it was like to be a part of this team. He took me out and showed me a good time. He made me feel like I was a part of the team. I had a great time.”
While there has been speculation that Stephen could be moved to another position, he said Nutt was only focused on running back for the time being.
“Right now, he just wants me playing running back and special teams,” Houston said. “But it doesn’t matter to me. I’ll do whatever he asks of me. He said I’ll get some early playing time, but I understand it won’t be as much as I’m used to.”
Now Houston will focus on his grades and getting to Ole Miss as soon as possible.
“I’m doing fine academically,” he said. “Everything is going well and now I’m just waiting for graduation.”
Is it safe to say the visit reaffirmed his commitment?
“No doubt,” said Houston. “I’m 100 percent committed to Ole Miss. I can’t wait to get here.”
