Rebels still looking at Forest Hill safety
By

Forest Hill made their first playoff experience in 17 years. One of the key contributors on defense talks about where he stands with his recruitment.
"I would not say I am satisfied with how we finished the year," added
Godfrey Thompson
. "But we worked real hard in the summer. We feel fortunate to make it to the playoffs for the first time in 17 years, but we lost to Picayune in the first round."
How did the 6' 1", 195 pound safety play this season?
"I could have done better, but I think I gave it my all each game. I made a lot of big plays this year. I scored a lot of TD's. I blocked two punts one game and that was fun."
What were his stats for the year?
"I had 65 tackles, 1 pick, 2 defensive TD's, 1 sacks, 4 rushing TD's, 1 kick return for a TD, and 1 punt return for a TD."
What improvements did Thompson see in his game?
"My leadership and just having better ball skills. My tackling got a lot better too. I took better angles this year. I improved my one on one tackling a lot this year."
Any colleges come to scout Godfrey's games?
"Ole Miss came to see me play earlier. Coach always tells me a scout is in the stands, but he does not tell us who. I went to the Ole Miss/Auburn game with
Emmanuel McCray
a week or so back. That was a lot of fun. I spoke to Coach (Derrick) Nix at Ole Miss a lot on the phone. He is pretty cool. I would say they are showing me the most interest."
What did Godfrey learn about Ole Miss during the unofficial visit?
"I went this summer to their camp, but they take their academics serious. They have a tutor for each class and that is pretty impressive. As you can see, they have turned their team around. Their coaches have a good relationship with their players too. It seems like a cool university."
Coach Nix has been open and honest about the scholarship situation at Ole Miss.
"He told me that he wants to offer me, but they have a couple of other guys in front of me. I hope they offer because I like Ole Miss and it would be fun playing with Emmanuel (McCray) again. When I was playing the NCAA game last night, Coach Nix called me and I told him I was playing Ole Miss. He said get ready to play them in a bowl game because that is where they are headed (laugh). They are talking about playing in a New Year's bowl, talking big things over there."
The other D1 programs in Mississippi have been in contact with Thompson as well.
"Coach Hughes from USM and Coach Cheese from MSU. They are also calling and sending letters. JSU said they might offer too. Coach Hughes wants me to come down there and see them play and meet the coaches. He likes me. He also came to see me practice the other week. Coach Cheese and me do not really talk too much, but when we do, we talk about all of the recruits they are getting. He wants me to come visit too."
