Houston (Texas) Shortstop Gives Verbal

While scouting multiple players in at the World Wood Bat Tournament in Marietta, Ga., Rebel recruiting coordinator Rob Reinstetle scanned the right field at the right time. The end result is another talented shortstop for the 2009 class.
Houston, Texas (St. Pius X) native
Evan Frazar
was four states over and made a single swing that jumpstarted a personal relationship between himself and Reinstetle. The right-handed infielder connected with a pitch and delivered a walkoff to give his team the victory. A conversation between the two followed soon after, and on August 12th, a commitment did as well.
“He picked the perfect time to walk by the field I guess,” Frazar said. “Coach is a great guy, and someone I can see myself being around everyday. It is exciting.”
Frazar chose the Rebels over Texas A&M, LSU, Arizona and Miami.
Ole Miss
, A&M and LSU were his final three, however Oxford was his only visit of the group.
The six-foot-one, 200-pounder made the trip the weekend of August 10th and saw all he needed to see.
“The campus is really nice, and it is a calm place,” Frazar said. “It is a place I can be happy living for the next three years. The coaches were all very interested, and I feel there is the possibility for playing time and to win. I know shortstop has been up and down since (Zack) Cozart graduated.”
Frazar is a rangy defender in the middle infield and has a plus arm to go along with excellent speed. He features a 6.60 60 time and has been clocked at 91 MPH throwing across the diamond.
Frazar hit .575 with nine home runs this summer with a wood bat and has the potential to be a power threat at the next level.
“I want to get bigger and improve my strength,” Frazar said.
Ole Miss had been sending the senior letters since July 1, and after communication was made, Frazar realized there was an Ole Miss presence in Texas.
“Once I started talking to people about the Rebels, subsequently almost everybody knew somebody who went there or had family close. It is kind of interesting.”
With the lone visit and quick commitment, Frazar has gotten the mentally exhausting process of recruiting out of the way before his final prep season.
“That definitely played a part,” Frazar said. “I don’t want to be worried about colleges. Senior year is busy enough without that extra thing to deal with. I made the right choice and can now move on.”
Alex Yarbrough
is the other shortstop committed for the 2009 class.
