Darius Winston wants to start his season off with a bang with a public commitment on the day of the biggest game of the regular season.
"We have a big game (against Pulaski Aca) that day, and I know my whole
team is going to be pumped up about that day," added the soft spoken Darius Winston. When I make my decision, I want my whole team to be a part of it."Although
the 6' 1", 180 pound cornerback has close to three weeks before he makes
his commitment public, the decision has already been made.
"I
made up my mind last week where I am going. I am just going to wait until September
5th to announce my decision."
Which schools did the All-State selection
make it from?
"It came down to Arkansas, Clemson, Michigan, Tennessee,
and Ole Miss."
What stood out about Arkansas?
"I am crazy
about Coach Ward. They also have a great recruiting class coming in with a whole
bunch of potential on that team."
What about Clemson's positives?
"They
also have a great recruiting class coming in, and they already have a great secondary
that I would not mind being a part of."
How about Michigan?
"They
have a good opportunity at cornerback for me, but they also will let me return
punts and kickoffs. If I am at Michigan, they will let me display my skills. There
is a lot of opportunity their."
And Tennessee?
"They have
a great head coach there and a great secondary. I would love to play for a defense
like Tennessee's."
What stands out about Ole Miss?
"I just
love that whole coaching staff. I feel like they are going to turn it around at
Ole Miss. I would love to be a part of that. I plan on taking an official visit
to Ole Miss on Labor day weekend, when they play Memphis."
Anymore
official visits on tap?
"That is it."
Should people read
anything into that?
"I guess you could say that, yes sir (laugh)."
Out
of the five finalist for Darius, which ones has he visited unofficially?
"Just
Arkansas and Ole Miss."
In the end, what made Darius go with the school
he decided on?
"It came down to where I could reach my full potential."
Has
each of the five finalists given Winston the option to be a returner as well as
a cornerback?
"Oh, yes sir, every school told me that they would give
me the chance to do both. When I am talking about reaching my full potential,
I am talking about coaching, depth chart, and opportunities, all of it in one
package."
