Arkansas OL Matt Hall visited Ole Miss this weekend and, according to his Mom, Linda, he had a "great weekend." Read her comments inside.
Arkansas Offensive Lineman
Matt Hall
visited Ole Miss this weekend and was thoroughly impressed with what the Rebels have to offer, according to his Mother, Linda Hall.
"Matt is worn out, but I can tell you he had a great weekend," said Mrs. Hall. "This will end up being one of the best visits we take."
Hall, who earlier had committed to then Arky Coach Houston Nutt and OL Coach Mike Markuson, opened his recruitment back up when Nutt left Arkansas.
"He has not decommitted to Arkansas, but we felt like we needed to look around some after the coaching change because you never know what will happen," she continued.
Mrs. Hall said the family knew what to expect from a people standpoint before they ever got to Oxford.
"Those coaches are like family to us. We already had a relationship with them, which is very important to Matt and us," Mrs. Hall stated. "What we were interested in was to see the facilities and get to know a little more about Ole Miss and Mississippi.
"The facilities at Ole Miss and Arkansas are very comparable. Some things are better at Ole Miss, some better at Arkansas, but both have very nice overall facilities."
Linda said her son's relationship with Markuson is very important in the decision-making process.
"Their relationship is extremely good. They hit it off immediately when they met - they have always had a good relationship, and that's important," she continued. "I know if Matt chooses Ole Miss that I don't have to worry about him at all. I know he will be taken care of and that is important to us as a family."
The Halls live about two hours from Fayetteville and about 4 1/2 hours from Oxford. Distance a factor? Yes. A deal breaker? No.
"As a Mom, I want him as close as possible, but as I said, I would not worry about him at Ole Miss because I know he will be in good hands," Linda noted. "Certainly, there would be a little more inconvenience to us seeing him if he came to Ole Miss, but if Ole Miss is his choice we will be able to deal with it."
Matt still has Arkansas and Missouri left for his official visits, but Mrs. Hall said we were not reading too much into her comments to say Matt is leaning toward Ole Miss right now.
"I think you can safely say that, but he's still open," she added. "We had a great visit. Matt had a lot of fun and there was no pressure put on him to make a decision. He was not backed into a corner. The Ole Miss coaches are giving him time and space.
"To me, that shows a great deal of confidence in their program. They know they are going to get it done at Ole Miss and are not desperate. That is comforting to us and, as I said, we are very comfortable with the staff."
We spoke to Mrs. Hall on the family's way back to Arkansas. They stopped off in Hernando, where Mrs. Hall's sister resides.
"No matter where he chooses, we will have family close by, so that's a good thing," she ended.
