Word seemed to travel everywhere within seconds concerning the new Ole Miss coach, but it took a little time for one recruit to get the news.

El Camino CC (Calif.) running back Kenny Ashley didn’t hear about the coaching change until Wednesday night and is now wanting to get to know the new staff.

“My coach called me last night and let me know that Coach O was let go,” Ashley said. “I hadn’t been watching TV or keeping up with anything I guess.”

Even in receiving the late information, Ashley is aware of Houston Nutt and what he was able to do at Arkansas.

“I know he has a great offense,” the former USC signee said. “He coached Darren McFadden, so that can’t be a bad thing. He turned Arkansas into a winner. I do know that.”

Even with the positive things regarding Nutt, Ashley was unhappy about Orgeron being let go.

“No not completely happy. O was a great guy, and I think he would have turned it around in a little more time. He was getting great recruits. Some of the best.”

So where is Ashley concerning his next school?

“I still want to come. I just didn’t know exactly what was going on. I hate it for Orgeron, but I want to be at Ole Miss.”

He is scheduled to graduate in May and have three years to play three.
