Ole Miss waits on Alex Williams

Ole Miss waits on Alex Williams

Alex Williams (OL, New Orleans, LA) - The 6' 5", 295 pound offensive line prospect out of O. Perry Walker committed to Ole Miss last February after sitting out his junior season due to Hurricane Katrina but will trip to Oklahoma this weekend.

"I spoke to Frank (Wilson from Ole Miss) a couple of weeks back," added O. Perry Walker's head coach, Skip Lammothe. "He wants to see how Alex's grades come along after the break before they bring him in for an official visit. Alex asked me if it would be alright if he took some official visits then. I told him he would need to get Ole Miss' ok before he did something like that. He called (Coach) Frank (Wilson) and they had a good conversation. They were upfront with him about the grade thing, and he is going to visit Oklahoma this weekend with his WR, Tyrus Stradford. He is going to Florida State on January 19th, and he set up a visit with Nebraska and Michigan State in January, but I forgot the dates. He is going to save his last visit for Ole Miss, but he has to wait and see when they want to bring him in."

Speaking of Ole Miss, where does Alex now stand with his commitment?

"Oh, he is still committed to Ole Miss. His scholarship offers is still good from them, as far as I know. They just want to see how his grades go this semester in school before they decide to bring him in. I think these other visits are more of an insurance policy, so to speak, for Alex in case they can not take him in the end. He still needs to have someone to sign with if worst comes to worst."

Is Alex upset that the Rebels have put him on hold?

"I think him and Frank have a good understanding on everything. It is all going to work out. Alex rent up to a 15 on the ACT test. He is taking English 4 and a German class right now, and if he does well on those, his core GPA will be close to matching his ACT score. He will be finished with his core classes after he completes these two classes, so we are going to let him retake some core classes in the Spring to pull his GPA up. I have only had one of my kids to not qualify since I have been the coach over here, and we did not get that kid until the Spring semester of his senior year. Alex will be alright in the end."
