Jonathan Williams (DT, MS Delta CC, MS) - Jonathan was all set to sign with Auburn coming out of high school but the lack of grades took him on another route.
"I was going to sign with Auburn out of high school, but I did not qualify. I had always wanted to play for Auburn. It was a big let down for me, but things have a way of working itself out," added the 6' 4", 270 pound defensive tackle from Augusta (GA).
Although Jonathan missed out on a chance to play in the SEC right away; he is glad that he landed at MS Delta CC.
"The coaches here have been so good for me. We are like a big family over here. I have nothing but good things to say about MS Delta CC. They treat you right over here."
Hurricane Katrina cut short the season for all of the juco programs in Mississippi last season, but Williams still feels like it was a success.
"It was tough losing some games, but I had a pretty good year. I probably had around 30 tackles and 4 or 5 sacks. I did not get any awards or honors, but I think I improved my game. I plan on trying to be the best defensive tackle in the Mississippi league and graduate in December. Those are my goals."
Who are the main colleges that are involved with Williams' recruitment?
"I say the main two schools who are recruiting me are South Carolina and MSU. I have offers from South Carolina, MSU, and Ole Miss. Auburn is also showing me a lot of interest and so is Kansas."
What has South Carolina and MSU done differently than the rest of the programs?
"They try to keep in contact with me. They just act like they really care."
Has Ole Miss been in contact lately?
"They have not really kept in touch with me. I guess they lost interest in me after I committed."
Which colleges are at the top of Williams' list?
"South Carolina, MSU, and Auburn. Those are the main three."
What does he like about South Carolina?
"I like their staff. I like Coaches Nix, Spurrier, and Womack. It seems like they are starting a good program. I like the direction they are going. I want to win when I get to the next level, and I think they are going places. But the main thing is that they are only like 45 minutes from my home. They are like real close to my home town."
And Auburn?
"I was going to sign with them out of high school, but I did not qualify. We kept in touch when I sat out a semester at Independence because they placed me there. I have a pretty good relationship with their coaches. I am just not sure if they are going to offer me or not."
Williams committed to MSU back in March; where do the Bulldogs stand?
"I am still committed. I am just looking at some other schools. I guess being here in Mississippi, I kind of adopted the Mississippi culture. I have been to some (of their) games, and I really like the atmosphere there. I like Coaches Haley and Croom too. Coach Haley is an excellent defensive line coach. He is on another level, a great guy."
Has Jonathan begun to set up his official visits?
"No sir, I have not scheduled any yet. I am focusing on my season at MS Delta CC. When it comes around, it will come around. But I will definitely visit South Carolina and MSU and probably Auburn too."
It is very common for commitments to look around just to make sure they are making the right decision, and odds are, Williams will stick with his pledge to the Bulldogs.
"I feel like MSU was a good decision. I think it is a good percentage I will end up at MSU. I just want to look around and make sure I am making the right choice. I really think Coach Croom will put me in a good position to succeed there. I am not too worried about it. Everything will work itself out when that time comes."
