Drake Nevis skips LSU camp

Drake Nevis

Drake Nevis (DT, Marrero, LA) - One of Louisiana's top prospects has started to hear from his home state school recently.

"LSU has been text messaging me a bunch recently. They wanted to get me up there to their camp that is going on," commented Drake Nevis

It had been reported on scout that Nevis was going to attend the LSU camp today and a formal offer would be made if Nevis performed well enough.

"I did not go because I just could not make it. Some stuff came up. I just could not go."

Drake has been hearing from several more colleges despite his commitment to the Rebels.

"Alabama game me a verbal offer last week. I have not seen it on paper, but really, the only one on paper I have seen is Ole Miss'. Nobody has my address because of Katrina and all, so they usually just tell me or my coach (about the offer)."

Which colleges have offered Drake a scholarship, verbally?

"I have ones from Ole Miss, Florida, Miami, Oklahoma, Auburn, Alabama, Mississippi State, Nebraska, Colorado, and Texas A&M. That is about it."

Where does Nevis stand with his commitment to Ole Miss?

"I am still good with Ole Miss, but I am still going to take my visits. Ole Miss has that family environment, and they have a good coach. I am still on high on that. I still feel good about my commitment to Ole Miss."

Drake is winding down his summer conditioning program and some goals were met.

"I did it on Monday. I lifted 435. That had been my goal, to get to 435 on my bench before the season started. I am pretty excited about it."

Drake had to transfer from John Ehret to Terrevone due to Hurricane Katrina last season, but he is now back at John Ehret High School.

Even with the transfer, NEvis still made All-State after collecting 80 tackles, 8 sacks, 15 for loss, 2 forced fumbles, 3 recovered fumbles and 1 for a TD, 12 hurries, and 8 batted passes for the season (combined for both schools).
