The Panthers
are more known for their baseball, but this year's football squad has a very special
receiver on their squad.
The 6' 1", 185 pounder caught 60 passes for
1,099 yards and 16 touchdown passes as a junior. Jerry nabbed two pass interceptions
as a defensive back and had 490 yards as a kick returner.Duncan was named to
the 1st team offense on Mississippi's 4A All-State team over the likes of Terry Levy and Darrius Young.
Just what makes this young man so good?
"I
read coverages well. I also break down the defenses and just make plays,"
added Jerry Duncan.
Jerry is also a star for their baseball squad, as he
batted .392 for the Class 4A Finalist.
But it is on the gridiron where
Duncan will get his best chance to play on the next level.
Which colleges
has Duncan camped at this summer?
"I have been to Alabama and Ole Miss and USM. Just a couple of them."
How did Jerry's Alabama experience
go?
"It was good. Their coaches were real hands on. They showed you
the fundamentals and how to do things."
And what about the Ole Miss
camp?
"It was good too. Their coaches really push you to do your best,
to be a big time playmaker."
And USM?
"Basically the same
things. They really stressed about being a leader."
Which colleges
are now at the top of Duncan's wish list?
"My top schools are Ole
Miss, Alabama, Auburn, LSU, and FSU."
Did Jerry receive any phone
calls in the month of May?
"I just got a couple of them. Ole Miss,
LSU, Alabama, and Auburn. They just called to say hello, to make sure I was coming
to their camp. You know how they do it."
While the offers have not
started to roll in yet; three could be getting pretty close?
"I think
Ole Miss, LSU, and Auburn are the closest."
Has Jerry developed a
tight bond with any of the coaches who are recruiting him?
"Well,
I have not really had that one on one time yet. They all sound like nice guys,
so far."
What stands out about Ole Miss?
"I like their
coaches and campus. The atmosphere seems like a great place to be. I am going
to take an unofficial visit there in July to sit down and talk to them about some
things, like we I stand with an offer. I am going to go to Auburn and Alabama
too."
What are Alabama's positives?
"Again, they have
a good atmosphere. I loved their stadium, and the people there are so nice. They
make you feel at home."
And Auburn?
"I have never been
there. I got a phone call from them last week. They want me to come in for a visit.
That will be the next place I go."
LSU's positives?
"They
have a great campus, stadium, coaches, people, and the camp director was really
hands on. It is just a real good program."
When it comes decision
time; what will be the main factors?
"Like I said, the coaches and
surroundings. Will I have a good support group around me to help me during the
tough times."
