Alex Williams commits!

Alex Williams (OL, New Orleans, LA) - O'Perry Walker Offensive Lineman Alex Williams became the Rebs' 12th football commitment for the 2007 class this afternoon when he said "yes" to Coach Ed Orgeron's scholarship offer. Williams is one of the highest-rated OL in the South. Read about him inside.

One of the main questions asked of any commitment is "why Ole Miss?"

When O'Perry Walker Offensive Lineman Alex Williams was given that question, his normally-deep voice raised an octave.

"Man, it's just a cool place," he said, with obvious excitement. "When I visited, it seemed like I was at home. All the people I met were just real people who you can relate to and instantly like.

"The coaches there are excited about what they are doing, but they aren't guys who pressure you. They are just real people who you can tell enjoy everything about the game of football, like me."

Williams, who is a 4-star prospect and one of the Top 100 recruits in the nation (preseason), didn't take long to make his decision.

"I talked to Coach O (Ed Orgeron) today and he was just as real on the phone as he was on my visit. The timing was right," said the 6-6, 280-pounder. "I also know Coach (Frank) Wilson real well and he's a great guy who everyone in New Orleans and Louisiana knows and trusts. I will be in good hands at Ole Miss."

Williams said he's been receiving "hard" recruitment from "a lot" of schools, but he was "too excited" to name them all.

"Louisville, some Florida schools, some home state schools, I don't know. I'm too pumped up right now to remember," he laughed.

Due to the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, Alex did not get to play his junior year, but he has returned to O.P. Walker.

His sophomore season, he was already being touted as one of the best interior linemen in the state of Louisiana.

"I missed football, but I am going to make up it this year," he closed. "I am going to put everything into my senior season. There is a lot of work I need to do to get ready for college.

"Like all linemen, I want to get bigger, faster and stronger and that's what I will work on, for my high school and for the future."

Williams is the Rebs' 12th commitment - already - for the 2007 season.

Unbelievable.

Welcome aboard, Mr. Williams!
