Tennessee has pulled some great defensive end prospects out of Mississippi in recent years – Will…
Named to Dandy Dozen Team
"I do not care about all of that stuff. I just want to win championships and get a great education. I will let my play do all of the talking for me," noted Talbert.
Talbert might not care about the "attention" from the various services, but that did not stop him from receiving the most prestigious award in the State of Mississippi. The Clarion Ledger released their Dandy Dozen Team team last week, which selects the top 12 prospects in the Magnolia state, and Milton was on the team.
There are only two unknown variables left for the Milton Talbert sweepstakes. They are:
A. Which position will the 6' 3", 230 pounder end up on the next level?
B. Which school will Talbert sign his name on the dotted line?
The following information was revealed during our interview with Milton Talbert:
How did it feel to be named to the Dandy Dozen squad? "It is an honor. Hey, they only picked 12 people out of the state. I was lucky to be one of them. God has truly blessed me. I owe everything to him."
Which position are you going to play this season? "My coaches said I was going to play (defensive) end, some nose guard, a little tight end and some linebacker too. They are going to move me around to where ever I am needed the most."
How is Hattiesburg's team looking? "We are looking real good, man, real good. We return 9 starters on defense. Everybody is back but Charles Burns and a cornerback. On offense, we only lost Calvin Wilson. I really think we are going to contend for the ring this year. God has really blessed our team and is looking out for us."
Attended any camps this summer? "No sir, I really wanted to be with my teammates this summer and push them to better themselves in the weight room. I did some camps my sophomore and junior years. Our team did go to the USM 7 on 7 tournament last week. We got a lot better as a team. I was going to go to the MSU senior camp, but some things came up at the last moment, and I did not get to go. I had to stay at home."
Which colleges are you hearing from the most right now? "The most, well, USM, Ole Miss, MSU, Tennessee, Alabama, and Auburn are the schools that have offered me a scholarship. There are some more schools who have offered me too, but those schools call and keep in contact with me the most."
Which schools are standing out right now? "Well, really, all of the ones I just named. Those are the ones who stand out the most. I have not had a chance to see anybody but Ole Miss and USM. Them two are the only schools I have gotten to really know their coaches. I went to Ole Miss' camp my sophomore and junior years, and I went to their Jr Day this Spring. I really like it up there a lot. And USM, it is just down the street. I go over there all of the time. But when I get a chance to see Tennessee, Auburn, Alabama, Auburn, and MSU, I am going to make a decision."
What stood about Ole Miss during your visits? "I like their facilities and Coach Orgeron. He is just so excited and fun to be around. I would love to play for a coach like coach Orgeron. He is going to change their team. When I think of Ole Miss, Coach Orgeron is what comes to my mind. They are going to be good in a couple of years. It would be fun to be a part of that."
When you think of USM; what comes to mind? "They are real close to home. I would literally still be at my house if I went to school there. I think about being comfortable when I think of USM."
And MSU? "I have a lot of respect for Coach Croom. He is a strong Christian man. I talked to Coach Croom on the phone and he seems like a good guy. I just have a lot of respect for Coach Croom. That is what comes to my mind when I think of MSU."
Who was the first school to contact you by way of phone? "Ole Miss. They are recruiting me harder than everybody else. They send me like a 1,000 letters (laugh). I do not even have enough time to read all of them (laugh). They do their job, real good, maybe too good (laugh)."
What attracts you to Tennessee? "They pretty much dominate now. Just look at their record the last couple of years. They are always going to be good."
And Auburn? "They are the SEC champs, man. They are the team until somebody gets them."
What about Alabama? "They are going to surprise a lot of people. They get Brodie Croyle back. I am going to check out their school. Check out their people. See how many players they have at my position. This goes for all of the schools. I want to know how quickly I can get on the playing field. I want to know if I am going to redshirt or not. I just want them to be honest with me. I am competitive. I love to play. God has blessed me with the skills to succeed in this gameand life in generalI truly owe everything I have to the man above."
Milton is on track to make it in as a full qualifier.
