More
Chris Bergmann (LHP, Houston, TX) - The Rebels are always looking for a little "left handed" help, and it looks like one of Texas' top pitching prospects has Ole Miss on his mind.
Player Profile
Height: 6' 3 1/2"
Weight: 175
MPH: 89
Grades: 3.3 GPA / 1090 SAT
From: Houston, TX
High School: Memorial (6A)
The following information was revealed during our interview with
Chris Bergmann
:
Which position are you being recruited to play on the next level? "I pitch and play first base, but pitcher is where I am being recruited the hardest."
You throw from which side? "I throw and bat from the left side."
What are your strengths on the diamond? "I am pretty dominate from the left side. I throw a real good fastball, and I am also pretty good at pitching inside."
What does your fastball max out? "89 Mph."
Average? "Probably 87 Mph, if I had to put an average on it."
Which pitches are in your arsenal? "I throw a change-up, curveball, and fastball."
Best pitch? "My change-up."
The pitch you need to work on the most? "My curveball."
What else are you working on to get yourself ready for the next level? "I am trying to get my fastball up in the 90's by the time I get to college. I also want to work on my curveball. I need to have complete control on where it is going on each pitch. I want to be able to put it where it needs to be."
Tell us about Memorial's season last year? "We went to the Finals in Regional, which is a pretty big deal in Texas. We did really good this year. It was our best season in school history. We had never made it to Finals before."
How did you personally do? "Pretty good. I went 14 - 2 with a 2.48 ERA. I batted .330 with 9 HR's and I had a bunch of RBI's, like 50 something. I am more of a gap hitter than anything else though."
Did you receive any awards? "Yes sir, I was named 1st Team All-Region and District as a pitcher."
Which schools are you hearing from the most? "The most. That is a good question. There really are a lot of them. But, lets see, I would say Tulane, Ole Miss, TCU, Arkansas, Kansas State, and Baylor are calling me the most."
Any early offers? "Yea, but we are really not suppose to talk about that stuff."
Which colleges are now at the top of your list? "Well, my top school is Ole Miss. They are my number one choice. I want to play in the SEC, and that has always been my goal. I think Ole Miss has a chance to get to Omaha too, and I have always wanted to play in the World Series. But that is everybody's dream (laugh)."
When did you become interested in Ole Miss? "I took an (unofficial) visit and camped there."
What stood out during your visit? "Stood out. Well, the coaches are great. I really like their staff. I also liked their facilities. They are really nice. I just liked the whole atmosphere over there. Their campus, girls, just everything."
Who are your other top schools at this point in time? "TCU, Texas A&M, and Baylor."
Do you have anymore future trips on the calendar? "Well, I have already looked at Arkansas, Ole Miss, and Tulane. I am going to look at Texas A&M and TCU next."
What is your current academic status? "I have a 3.3 GPA and a 1090 on the SAT.
