Michael Carter attends Red and Blue game
Posted Apr 13, 2005
(DT, Memphis, TN) - Arguably Memphis' top defensive tackle took an unofficial visit to Ole Miss for their Spring game. We called to see how his visit went.
Height: 6' 3 1/2"
40 time: 4.9
Grades: 3.0 GPA / 19 ACT
From: Memphis, TN
High School: Melrose (4A)
The following information was revealed during our interview with
What are your strengths at defensive tackle? "I fire off the ball hard. I can read offenses very quickly. I have quick feet, and I just basically out think my opponents."
What are you working on to make yourself a more complete player? "One word, the weight room. I am trying to get as strong as I can. I also run track so I can keep my conditioning up."
Tell us about Melrose's (4A) season last year. "We went 14 - 1. We made it to the State Championship game. I anchored our defense that only gave up 4.2 points a game. Nobody scored more than 14 points on us all year, and only one team scored in double digits. We had a great year but just not quite good enough. We should take it (championship) home this year."
What were your stats for the year? "I had 97 tackles, 16 sacks, and 52 QB hurries."
Did you garner any awards? "I was named 1st Team All-Metro (
), All-State in Class 4A and for the overall State of Tennessee, and I was named one of the Most Wanted Prospects out of Shelby County (
Which colleges are showing you the most interest? "I would say Tennessee and Ole Miss. Louisville, Maryland, North Carolina,
South Carolina, Miami, and Arkansas have also been recruiting me real hard but not as hard as Ole Miss and Tennessee."
Any early offers? "I have been offered some academic scholarships, but I do not know athletically. Our coach handles all of that."
Have you had a chance to take any spring visits? "I went to the Adidas Combine at Tennessee last month, and I just got back in from Ole Miss' Spring game. That is it so far."
What did you learn about Ole Miss during your visit? "They have a very nice (indoor) complex. They just have great facilities and a nice campus."
What stood out the most about the Rebels? "Their staff is just so fun to be around. It looks like their defense is going to be really good."
What did you most like about Tennessee during your visit? "Everything, man, everything."
Who are some other schools that have caught your eye? "Georgia and Miami have offered me an academic scholarship, so I am very interested in them. I am also looking at South Carolina some."
What attracts you to Miami? "Just their whole history. A good frined of mine (
) goes there too."
And Georgia? "They have a good steady football program."
What got you interested in South Carolina? "They have a new head coach who should turn things around. Their new complex is really nice too, like Ole Miss'. Two of my friends and former teammates (QB/
) of mine play for them too. They talk real good about South Carolina."
What will you be looking for when it comes decision time? "I want to go to a prestigious academic institution with a great football program. On top of that, I want to get along with their coaches and players. That is basically about it."
