Gary Albury, CB 6-0, 185. 4.5
Orlando, FL – Edgewater HS
Gary Albury is one of three children and grew up in an athletic family. His sister is the QB for the Edgewater flag football team. He started playing organized football at 8 years old in the local Pop Warner leagues. Gary told us he always played defensive back. “Growing up, I always liked the Miami Dolphins,” he said. “I still like them even though they aren’t that good.” (chuckles)
Mr. Albury is a cornerback prospect that stands 6 feet tall and weighs 185 lbs. As for his style of play, he told us: “I pattern my game after Deion Sanders. I have quick feet and excellent quickness that allows me to make up for mistakes. I always wore #21 as he was my favorite player growing up.”
On his goals, “Well, first I want to win the state championship. We have been to the big game 2 times already, this year we want a ring.” When pressed on personal goals, he said “I want to be an All-American.”
Gary will have a busy summer, having attended a camp in Miami, plus he will attend the Rising Senior Camp at UF in July, and the 1 day camp at USF on July 17th. As for his summer work outs he says, “I train three days a week at 8am, with weights and conditioning. When I am done with that training I also run a mile.” And he sounded very serious about it.
On the best player he’s competed against: “Another guy graduating this year, Fred Rouse, he’s real good.”
When asked about his recruitment he said, “Florida, Clemson, and a few others have been recruiting me hard. I am pretty open right now about where I want to go. Coach Strong is recruiting me at Florida and I am looking forward to getting up there for that camp.”
Does he have a favorite college team? ”I like all the Florida schools.”
On his plans for the rest of the summer when he’s not playing or working out, Gary said: “I’ll just be partyin’, hangin’ out, and chillin’”.
A diamond in the rough? We’ll see. I know for a fact some have a high opinion of Gary Albury.
