The following information was revealed during our interview with Jerrell Powe:
Are you going to play in the Army All-American bowl? "I am. I am leaving
tomorrow (Sunday)."
Any recent inhome visits? "Coach Orgeron came and saw me today."
What was your impression? "I like him, man. I like the way he talks. I
like coach Orgeron. He has a lot of energy. It would be a great opportunity
for me to play for the best defensive line coach in America. It really would."
What all did Coach Orgeron say to you? "He wants me to help him turn Ole Miss' program around. He said there is no better feeling that representing your
home state. He thinks he can win the Sugar Bowl, and he wants me to help him
get there."
Do you have any official visits lined up this month? "I go to Ole Miss
on January 21st, and I have to reschedule the Nebraska visit."
Are you pretty much down to Auburn and Ole Miss? "And LSU."
Rumor has it that you are going to announce your decision at the Army All-American
bowl? "That is right."
Does that mean that Ole Miss is out of it since you will make your announcement
before you take your visit? "No, Ole Miss has a good chance, a real good
chance. If I commit on the show, it will not be my final decision. It will change
on signing day."
Why would you commit then? "I mean it is sudden to change on signing day."
What is attracting you to Auburn right now? "Man, they play defense. Coach
Dun is a great guy. I went to one of their practices, and they get after it.
They just play good defense."
What are Ole Miss' positives? "Pretty much the same things as Auburn except
they are not as good, defensively, as Auburn."
And LSU? "They have a lot of young guys, so they are going to be good for
a few years."
What is your academic situation; do you have a chance to make it or are you
going the juco route? "I will have to go the juco route, but there is an
outside chance I can get in."
Is going the prep school route out of the question? "Yea, I do not want
to go the prep school route."
Why? "I do not want to even waste my time."
