Swayze Waters named All-State

Swayze Waters (P, Jackson, MS) - Swayze helped Jackson Prep to their second consecutive state championship appearance this season. Waters held all of the kicking duties for Prep. Waters averaged 42.7 yards per punt during his junior and senior seasons. He also boomed four punts for over 70 yards with a long of 79 this year.

The following information was revealed during our interview with Swayze Waters:

How did Prep do this year? "We ended up runner-up again. We did pretty good. We had a pretty good run. I did a lot better at kicking and punting. Overall, I did pretty good."

What most did you improve on this season? "My set off time for punting, and my field goals got a lot better. My strength was a lot better in both my kickoffs and field goals."

What were your stats for the season? "I would have to look in the paper. I know I had 14 field goals with a long of 52 yards. I had 4 punts that were over 70 yards and my long was 79 yards. I averaged 42.7 yards on 36 punts."

Any awards come your way? "I was named All-State and All-Metro by the Clarion Ledger. I was also named All-MPSA and All-Rankin County as a kicker and a wide receiver. I got MVP for our team, and I was Player of the Week by the Clarion Ledger and Blitz 16."

I guess you have heard the news about Blake McAdams? "Yes sir."

What are your feelings? "I do not know, Ole Miss has been staying in touch with me for a while. UAB has offered me. I am still keeping my options open. I really do not have any feelings. We will see what they (Ole Miss) are going to do."

When was the last time Ole Miss visited you? "I met with Coach Hopson (now DC at USM) the Saturday before the dead period started. He told me Blake McAdams was getting shaky, and it might all work out for me."

Have you set up your official visits? "I have. I am going to UAB on January 7, Alabama on January 14, and Ole Miss on January 21."

Have you received any inhome visits besides Ole Miss'? "Coach Sparky Woods (Alabama) has been by my school and home. The UAB coaches have been by a couple of times."

Swayze carries a 3.0 GPA and a 24 on the ACT.
