Cullan Kight commits to Rebels

Cullan Kight (Inf/RHP, Simpson Aca, MS) - Being tabbed as the #1 prospect (Team One Baseball) in your home state carries a lot pressure, but that is what Mr. Kight thrives on, the spot light. Last season, Kight batted .410 with 7 HR's at the plate and went 12 - 0 with a 1.72 ERA on the mound. This was good enough to earn District Player of the Year and All-State (Clarion Ledger).

Kight completed the recruiting process this morning when he committed to the University of Mississippi. He choose the Rebels over Alabama and Mississippi State. All three schools offered.

The following information was revealed during our interview with Cullan Kight:

What is your current height and weight "I am 6' 3, 225. I have been hitting the weights a little bit."

Which side do you throw and bat from? "I throw from the right and bat from the left."

Which AAU team do you play for? "I play for the MS Stars."

Did you attend any showcase tournaments this past summer? "I went to the NABF World Series in Millington (TN), and I also attended the Jr Sunbelt Classic in McCallister (OK)."

Which colleges are you considering? "I was considering Alabama, Mississippi State, and Ole Miss before this past weekend. I committed to Ole Miss this weekend."

Did you take an official visit with Ole Miss this past weekend? "Yes sir."

Who would you say came in second place for your services? "Probably Alabama with MSU behind them."

Why did you choose Ole Miss? "Well, the atmosphere in Oxford is amazing. Their program, they are definitely on the rise,. and I like their staff the best. I think they will have a good chance to get to Omaha by the time I get there."

Which coach(s) recruited you for Ole Miss? "Coaches Lake and McDonnell were the main ones. Coach Lake has been contacting me for a while, and Coach McDonnell starting calling me recently. We get along real well."

Which position(s) is Ole Miss recruiting you to play? "Mainly for my hitting, either 1B or 3B. They said I might pitch some in my later years. I might get a chance to become their closer."

Do you plan to sign in the early signing period? "Yes sir."

What is your academic status? "I have a 3.0 GPA and a 21 on the ACT."
