Brett Basham
(C, Knoxville, TN) - Bruce Basham was a star catcher for the Vols back in the 70's. One would assume that his highly regarded son would follow pursuit, but Brett decided to make his on path and committed to the Rebels.
The following information was revealed during our interview with Brett Basham:
What is your current height, weight, and how much time does it take you to throw from home plate to second base? "I am 6' 2", 180, and it takes me 1.81 seconds to get it to second base."
Which position do you currently play? "Catcher."
Which position are you being recruited to play on the next level? "Catcher."
Which side do you throw and bat from? "I throw from the right and bat from the right."
What are your defensive and offensive strengths? "Defensively, my arm is strong. I block the ball well. I also call the games well. Offensively, I am not a real big power hitter, more of a gap hitter."
How long have you been starting for Beardin (3A)? "This will be my third year."
What were your stats as a junior? "I batted .315 and had 2 HR's."
Your defensive stats? "I threw out 70% of the runners for the season."
Any awards? "I was named All-District 4(3A)."
Which AAU team do you play for? "The Knoxville Yard Dogs."
Did you attend any showcase tournaments? "I was selected to play in the Perfect Game National Showcase at Tropicana Field June 18-20, 2004. I attended the Team One South Showcase at Georgia Tech in July 2004, where I was named as one of the top 30 Prospects at Team One South."
Are you aware of your rankings? "I am currently ranked #159 in the Nation and #4 in the State of Tennessee by
Baseball America.
"
Rumor has it that you committed to Ole Miss; is this true? "Yes sir, I did."
Who did you pick Ole Miss over? "Vandy, Georgia Tech, and Tennessee."
Are you finished with your official visits? "Yes sir, I took official visits with Georgia Tech and Ole Miss, but I am done now."
Why did you choose Ole Miss? "I just the small town atmosphere was better than the big town atmosphere that Vandy, Tennessee, and Georgia Tech had. I also like the fact that my position coach is also my head coach. That was pretty important."
Will you take anymore official visits? "No sir, I have canceled them."
Will you sign in the early signing period? "Yes sir."
What is your academic status? "I have a 3.5 GPA and a 22 on the ACT."
