Good Showing for Tyler Rice at Ole Miss Camp

Tyler caught the eye of many people in attendance at the Ole Miss Senior Camp last month. Rice had a nice showing as he posted a 5.1 and 5.4 in his two 40 yard dash times.
Rice has camped at Clemson, Ole Miss, Florida, Auburn, Duke, North Carolina, N.C. ST., and Georgia Tech.

It looks like Florida, Clemson, Ole Miss, and North Carolina are the early leaders. None have offered, but all four are giving him a serious look, along with North Carolina State.

The following information was revealed during our interview with Rice:

What are your current height, weight, and forty time? “I am 6' 5", 285, and I run a 5.3 forty."

Which position are you being recruited to play on the next level? “Offensive tackle."

What are your strengths on the field? “I get after people. I play really hard and with a lot of enthusiasm, and I play whistle to whistle. I finish my blocks."

What do you need to work on for the next level? “My feet, quickness, just getting faster. I need to get stronger and bigger too."

How long have you been starting for Lakewood Ranch? “I started my last five games of my sophomore season and all of my eleventh grade year."

Which positions have you played during your career at Lakewood Ranch? "I played both of them really. In 10th grade, I played right tackle, then they moved me over to left tackle last year."

What were your stats for the 2003 campaign? “I do not know them, but our coaches have all of our pancakes and grades for each game."

Any awards for your play? “I was named 2nd Team All-Area."

Have you attended any football camps this summer? "Yes sir, a bunch of them. I went to the S' East Combine, Clemson, Ole Miss, Florida, Auburn, Duke, North Carolina, North Carolina State, and Georgia Tech."

Which schools are currently recruiting you? “A bunch of people. North Carolina, North Carolina State, Ole Miss, and Clemson are recruiting me the hardest, but I have not received an offer yet. A lot of other schools are recruiting me but not as hard as those."

Who contacted you by phone during the early evaluation period? “Florida, Auburn, Clemson, Ole Miss, Citadel, North Carolina, North Carolina State, New Mexico, and Georgia Tech."

Who called first? “Coach Wickline at Florida."

Which coach has made the biggest impression with you? “Probably, it would have to be Coach Scott at Clemson. And Coach Latina at Ole Miss. I really like those two. If I had to name two, it would be those two. And Coach Wickline, I forgot about him."

Which schools have caught your eye so far? “Pretty much Florida, Clemson, Ole Miss, and North Carolina. I am still wide open, but those schools seem to stick out right now."

What attracts you to Florida? “The location. My sister attends Florida. I really like Coach Wickline too. I liked working with him at the camp."

What are Clemson's positives? "I really like Coach Scott. I like his coaching style. He is real similar to my coach at Lakewood Ranch. Their styles are real similar. And plus, playing in front of that many people game in and game out would be exciting."

And Ole Miss? “I really like their campus. It is so beautiful, just the scenery around there is great. It was about 10 degrees cooler than Florida. I like a cooler climate. I also like Coach Latina and his coaching style."

What are North Carolina's positives? "Pretty much the same things. Coach Hunt was real nice to my mother and I when we went in for a visit. He explained what the student/athlete's life is around there. He pretty much answered all of my mother's questions."

What will be the factors when it comes decision time? “A school that is prestigious both academically and athletically. I also want it to be in a good location. I do not want to go away too far from home, but at the same time, I want to get away. It would be neat to live in another state. The coaches will also be important. I want to be able to get along with them. And playing for a school in a BCS conference is important. I want to play in a BCS bowl game and win it."

Tyler carries a 3.75 GPA and a 22 on his ACT test.
