Recruiting Competition: Rod was one of the most highly-sought offensive linemen in the country with his choice of schools like Alabama, Texas, USC, Florida, LSU and on and on. His only official visit was to Ole Miss and after committing to the Rebels last summer, he never backed off. At one point, he had planned a visit to Baton Rouge with Breeland Speaks, but opted against that at the last minute, holding true to his word.
Quotable: “Ole Miss is home away from home. That’s what has always drawn me there. I love the people up there and my Mom does too. That’s important to me. It also helped that we will have a lot of Callaway boys up there. That even makes it more like home. This really was not a hard decision for me, despite the temptation from some other quality schools.”
Scouting Report: Mammoth guard prospect who was the only offensive linemen to top a 100 Sparq rating with a 104.4. He also tied with the top overall 40-yard dash for an OL with a 5.22. Performed well in drills and one-on-ones. Not only strong, but athletic. A great combo. Hoops background is also a testament to his athletic ability. In time, a roadgrader type on the collegiate level.
Coach Hugh Freeze Quote: “Rod is in the same mold of a Laremy Tunsil or Austin Golson in that he’s got a chance to be ready when he gets here. There’s nothing not to love about him, starting with the type of kid he is. Rod is big, strong, athletic and he gets after people on the football field. I think he’s one of those guys who can be a foundation player for our offensive line for years to come. I will be very surprised if he’s not in that echelon of players once he gets adjusted to college life and college football.”
