Dayall Harris phoned coach Ole Miss running backs coach Derrick Nix for Ole Miss Monday afternoon to…
"Ronald told me to call coach (Derrick) Nix," Harris said, describing how Ole Miss extended a scholarship offer. "Coach (Nix) told me they would've offered me earlier in the season but they normally don't offer four guys off the same team. My coach called coach Nix and told him to look at my film. He said I was a sleeper. Coach Nix watched it and gave it to the rest of their coaches to watch. They loved it. Coach Nix told me they would love to have me playing for Ole Miss and that I had a full offer to come to school there. I told him I'd love to play for him. It's a great program, and I see the type of players they're recruiting. They have a chance to win a championship." The Jackson-Callaway receiver has yet to visit Ole Miss but the Rebels' recent recruiting success has caught his eye. "I just see the type of players they're recruiting. They signed like the best defensive lineman, wide receiver and offensive lineman in the country last year. They might even recruit even better this year. I know C.J. Hampton, Ronald Walker, and D.K. Buford. They're ballers. Ole Miss is on the rise. That's what makes them so attractive. We were all going over there for their junior day earlier this month but it got pushed back to the spring game. All of us are coming up there for the game. Roderick Taylor, Ronald Walker, Brandon Speaks and myself. We're all coming." What Will Harris focus on when he visits Ole Miss? "I want to see how the wide receiver coach is. I've never spoken to him. I'm pretty sure they run the spread offense, but I want to watch some more film on them. I just want to see how the school is since I've never had the chance to go on a recruiting trip up there." Another in-state program is making a strong push. "MSU is recruiting me really hard. I know a lot about MSU. I went over there to their junior day a couple weeks back. They send me a lot of hand-written letters." How did the visit to State go? "Nice, really nice. They have a new football facility with a surround sound system. They're enclosing their football stadium. They're going to make it a horse shoe." "Did the Dogs and Dayall discuss his scholarship status? "No, we didn't really talk about that. But now that Ole Miss has offered, they're probably going to come in on me next. I think it caught them off guard that Ole Miss offered me. I've been talking to their wide receiver coach and he really likes me. I know coach (Greg) Knox and coach (Dan) Mullen too. They're all talking to me." The 6' 3", 185-pound receiver uses his size and smarts to his advantage on the field. "I watch a ton of film on the defenses I'm playing. I watch to see the tendencies of my opponent. I study what their weaknesses are, and I try and outsmart my opponent. I also run good routes. I can catch the ball well and I're a good blocker." Harris had 31 catches for 490 yards and seven TDs as a junior. var VideoMediaID = "1097197" var VideoStillImageID = "1097201" var MediaDir = "http://video.scout.com/media/"; var VideoURL = MediaDir + "video/flv/" + parseInt( VideoMediaID / 10000 ) + "/" + VideoMediaID + ".flv"; var ImageURL = MediaDir + "image/" + parseInt( VideoStillImageID / 10000 ) + "/" + VideoStillImageID + ".jpg"; var so = new SWFObject ('http://cdn-cms.scout.com/swf/flvplayer.swf','mpl','425','340','8'); so.addParam ('allowscriptaccess','always'); so.addParam ('allowfullscreen','true'); so.addVariable ('height','340'); so.addVariable ('width','425'); so.addVariable ('file',VideoURL); so.addVariable ('image',ImageURL); so.addVariable ('backcolor','0x000000'); so.addVariable ('frontcolor','0xFFFFFF'); so.addVariable ('lightcolor','0x00FF00'); so.addVariable ('screencolor','0x000000'); so.addVariable ('logo','http://media.scout.com/media/a/_network/mediaplayer/scoutTVlogo.png'); so.addVariable ('showstop','true'); so.write ('player'); Yancy Porter is the Mississippi Scout for Scout.com and he can be reached at email@example.com
