Bama beats Vanderbilt 58-54

Alabama got its first win over Vanderbilt at Memorial Gymnasium for the first time since the 1989-90 season. Crimson Tide head coach Anthony Grant called it a "big time win."

It took 22 years, but Alabama finally got itself a win at Memorial Gymnasium.

The Crimson Tide overcame an 11-point deficit in the final seven minutes to beat Vanderbilt 58-54 Saturday afternoon. Alabama outscored the Commodores 18-3 down the stretch. It was the first time the Tide has beaten Vandy on the road since 1990.

"Big time win," said Alabama head coach Anthony Grant.

Sophomore guard Trevor Lacey hit a 3-pointer with 56.8 seconds left to give Alabama (14-7, 6-2 SEC) a 56-54 lead that they were able to hold on to. Lacey scored nine of his game-high 17 points in the second half.

Vanderbilt (8-12, 2-6) led 31-23 at halftime and kept Alabama at bay anytime they tried to surge. Until the final seven minutes, that is.

Andrew Steele added 13 points for the Tide, including three 3-pointers.

Next up for Alabama is a trip to Auburn Wednesday.
