First Official Set Up

Lovejoy, Ga., tight end A.J. Jackson received an in-home visit from Ole Miss on Tuesday, a visit that resulted in the three-star prospect setting up his first official visit.

"Coach (Maurice) Harris from Ole Miss came last night and had a long talk with me and my mon," Jackson said. "He had a long conversation with my mother. He was the first coach to come see me this week. It was more or less getting coach Harris to get to know my mother better."

When did the interest start between Jackson and Ole Miss?

"I want to say in the middle of September we got a better understanding and relationship with each other. I have a friend who went to Ole Miss, and he always talks about how good of a school it is and how they take care of their players. Coach (Hugh) Freeze and Coach Harris are real cool too. They have a good program and a winning team. They're about to win big at Ole Miss. I've been following them this year and they just got better and better."

Has Jackson had a chance to see the Ole Miss campus yet?

"Not yet, but I set up an official visit with them in January (20th), but I have plans on going earlier for an unofficial visit. I'm going to go over there for a basketball game when our season is over."

What are Ole Miss' selling points?

"They have all of their tight ends leaving. They really need a tight end. The tight end position is involved with their offense, and they can't run their offense the way they want to without having an effective tight end. They said they really need for me to fill a hole."

Lovejoy is entering the third round of the playoffs and Jackson has played a big role in its success.

"We're doing really well. We play North Gwinett Friday. We have only lost one game. I have 11 touchdowns and somewhere around 20 to 25 catches. I'm doing really well. I'm a big target. I can get that first down in the red zone and make a key block to spring our running back for a big play. I'm good blocking tight end too."

The 6' 6", 245-pound tight end has two schools at the top.

"Ole Miss and FSU are my top two schools right now."

The Seminoles have some similar attributes as Ole Miss.

"They're the same as Ole Miss. They use their tight end a lot. They play in the ACC which is a little different than the SEC but that's OK. I have a very good relationship with coach Damien Craig. We're real cool. It's a good time there. Coach (Jimbo) Fisher is a real good guy. It's just a nice environment down there. I had a chance to go down there last Saturday to see them play Florida. That was my second trip to FSU. I'm taking my official visit down there sometime in December."

Is there any other schools else in the picture?

"I might take a visit to Mississippi State. I'm going to Auburn, I just don't know when yet."

What does Scout.com's #16 rated tight end know about MSU?

"Not much to be honest. I talk to them about once a month. They talk to my coaches some, but they're showing me interest. I haven't paid much attention to their season. I haven't visited their school yet so I don't know too much but they're showing me some good interest."

Jackson has been a long-time commitment for Auburn but the coaching change has left some uncertainty surrounding that commitment.

"I'm still committed to Auburn, but I want to see who their new head coach is going to be. I want to see if they keep coach Jay (Boulware). He's the coach who's been recruiting me and we're real close. I'm just basically waiting to see who they hire and if we can mesh or not."
