Aberdeen, Miss., defensive end Channing Ward, rated a five-star recruit by Scout.com, announced for Ole Miss during ESPN’s broadcast of the Under Armour All-America Game, a game in which Ward is participating.

“I feel like I'm at home (at Ole Miss),” Ward said to ESPN's Dari Nowkhah, “and I get to play with my brother.”

Ward’s brother, Taurus, currently plays for Ole Miss.

“He just told me to run with it and go where I want to go,” Ward said in an earlier interview with Scout.com. “Don’t let anybody tell you what they want you to do or what you should do and all that. Just go where you want to go.”

Ward, a member of the recruiting class of 2012, chose Ole Miss over Mississippi State and Alabama.

Ward is rated the No. 7 defensive end in the country by Scout.com. Ward was a Dandy Dozen selection by the (Jackson) Clarion-Ledger. He had 116 tackles and 16 sacks as a senior for Aberdeen High School. He was named Class 3A Defensive Player of the Year for the third-straight year.

“Just the school itself, not just that my brother goes there,” Ward said. “It’s just the school itself. It’s a good program, all the bowls they’ve done won and stuff.”

The 6-foot-4, 265-pound Ward held a multitude of offers, including Ole Miss, Alabama, Mississippi State, LSU and Auburn.

Ward recorded 119 tackles and 13 sacks as a junior, when he led his team back to the 3A state title game for the second straight season.

Ward reports a qualifying GPA. He will retake the ACT. He is scheduled to visit Ole Miss the last weekend in January. He has already visited Auburn and LSU. He has other visits set up with Mississippi State for the weekend of Jan. 13, and another to Alabama a week later.

Whether or not he takes those visits is unclear.

“Biggest factor (in my decision) probably is my family being able to come see me play and all that stuff,” Ward said in an earlier interview. “Academics and grades and all that stuff, and the family. That’s going to be your second family. You’re going to be with them for the next four years.”
